Mini Royale is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter where players, as toy-sized soldiers, fight across oversized environments like bedrooms and playrooms. It features different game modes such as Battle Royale, Color Conquest, and Deathmatch, emphasizing movement with tools like grappling guns and parkour-style traversal.
I joined the team during my internship and worked full-time on Mini Royale for five months. My main task was developing the base for a runtime Level Editor that allows players to create and share their own maps directly in-game. To make that possible, I dove deep into Unreal Engine’s source code, studying how the editor tools work internally, reimplemented and adapted them so they’d be usable in runtime.
I’m still working on Mini Royale now, continuing to expand the game as part of my Bachelor’s thesis, in which I explore how a runtime Scripting System can be designed and impemented to allow players to create their own game mode logic and bring even more creativity into the game.
